Chad: 01:07 So we're getting a lot of questions regarding the proper way to live life in ketosis. We have you covered in our midweek mini series called Sunday Supps every Sunday we have a quick supplemental episode where we answer your questions on all things Keto. So our question today comes from Kelly and he wrote you a little note here, Eric, which I'll read and then we'll get into the question if that's okay. He said, first off, I really, really appreciate it. He said, first off, let me thank you as a really overweight truck driver that was suffering from depression. I thought there was no help insight through a couple of friends I heard about the Keto Diet. Then I found your podcast through your coaching I have lost 50 pounds and no longer need antidepressants, so thank you Eric and Chad for what you're doing. That's I like that a lot. That's great. Congratulations Kelly. By the way, it's not just us great weight loss. It's not just us. That's a lot of hard work. On your end and a lot of discipline all the way up. So to his question, My question that I hope can be answered, is my wife having her gallbladder removed a couple years ago, is there anything she needs to know or take to help her? I'm not too sure of the complete role, the gallbladder, but I know it helps in the way fat is digested. So his question is basically within keto and all that kind of stuff, not having a gallbladder. What, what needs to be done?
Eric: 02:29 Great question. Great question. Um, I've coached, um, maybe I'd probably six that do not have gallbladders and in keto, which at first you're like, well, you don't have a gallbladder. Okay. And um, I just had one of my clients just have a gallbladder removed. But anyway, with the gallbladder, the issue is what's going to emulsify fats that you, that you dietary fats that you're eating. Okay. Obviously it goes to stomach, goes to the small intestine. That's where the bile comes in. Okay. To emulsify that fat to break it down. All right? So it can be absorbed. All right. So the, the issue with that is, alright, I don't have a gallbladder anymore. Obviously your liver makes the bile obviously and it basically comes out, you know, the ldl receptors takes the cholesterol and everything out and at the liver and then obviously it goes to the gallbladder and the bile salts that you have that goes from the gallbladder. Hormones will signal that gallbladder say, hey, we got fat coming in, let's come in here and I'm also five. Alright, so basically the gallbladder is a storage compartment for that. So what happens when you lose your gallbladder, bile is going to go straight in to your intestine. It's going to go straight in. Okay? So there's no storage. So you're going to have bile. But obviously it's not being controlled now. So it's going to go in. When are you eating your fats when you, your dietary fats are coming in. So there is a little bit of balance issue there, but you do have bile to almost fine. Also, you have pancreatic lipase that emulsifies it. So thinking you have to be careful. I, there's really a ketosis is great for that because obviously when you're Kenogenic you're gonna limit fatty liver issues. Okay. Because you're getting rid of all those high carbs, high triglycerides, etc. So it's nutrient wise, it's very good. But people Say, hey, I'm eating all this fat and I don't have a gallbladder, how am I going to emulsify it? Break it down. What? You still have bile, bile still goes there and what you watch for is if you know, if you're screening, if fat's going through and not getting broken down and utilized through your thoracic duct, carried off by your kyla microns, then obviously it's going to go. He's going to be excreted. So look in your stool and see if you have a lot of fat. I don't know. Chad, have you ever looked in your. Maybe not a good question, but no. Well you see a lot of fat bubbles at the top.
Eric: 05:03 I've had that and I didn't know why. I was like, what the heck? So fat went right through me. Okay. So you watch for that. All right. You know, that's one of the markers was hard to make sure that you're emulsifying your fats and they're being utilized. So what's great about those in ketosis, because a lot of people use mct oil. Alright? And so what mct oil. It's a acid. I like carbonate because it's more pure. Alright, pick up your mct oil because mct oil does not require emulsification. Alright, it goes straight thoracic, straight to the liver. I know. Portal vein, excuse me, straight to the liver. All right? So that, that's what's exciting about that. And so, you know, if you're low on fat, get some mct oil, but mostly the polyunsaturated saturated fats, the monounsaturated fats, there's no issue with it. Um, and sometimes I'll look at genetic factors, you know, if they have the, the fto gene, that's kind of your fat mass gene. There's some issues if you can handle a certain saturated fats are not, I'll look at different. New people are a and other things people are g and some things to look at your fatty acid metaBolism. If you don't have a gallbladder I'll check a few things out. But most people do not have, have an issue with processing fats. Um, and, and I know keto sometimes scares a lot of people because of that, and I'm not sure if she lost it because of a big gallbladder stone or blockage or just inflammation. I'm not sure what, why they took it out. Yeah.
Chad: 06:27 Yup. Well, this is great information. Great question, kelly. Thank you so much for, for sendIng us that question and thanks for biohacking with us. I bet.
