Going nuts for nuts! Eric recently shared some of his go-to nuts on Instagram (@biofit_coaching) so Ryan wanted to know why Eric likes pecans the most? What health benefits do they have?

Chad: 00:06 So we're getting a lot of questions regarding the proper way to live life in ketosis. We have you covered in our midweek mini series called Sunday Supps. Every Sunday we have a quick supplemental episode where we answer your questions on all things keto. So our question today comes from Ryan and Ryan asks, in reference to our recent instagram posts, you put up about nuts in their benefits. He asks, why are Pecans your favorite nuts? What health benefits do they have. So he's obviously, I mean I mentioned it, he mentioned it in his question. He's referring to the instagram posts that you did about nuts. Quick keto tip there and wanting to know a little bit more about pecans.

Eric: 00:46 You Bet. Yeah. My favorite one is because the taste, I actually liked them. I really, I like to taste the pecans over over almonds or walnuts over macadamia. And the second reason is because there are softer nuts and for some reason I don't know why I choke on almonds and other nuts to dry my wife's like quit eating those and so I love the taste of Pecans and so I stick with pecans, but besides that, uh, pecans or a pack, a good vitamin punch, I think there's 15 to 20 vitamin minerals in them, uh, which, uh, they, uh, they got vitamin B, they got folate, they got vitamin A, calcium, uh, even potassium, so they do have a great amount of good vitamins and good minerals. But of course it's now we're back to Omega nine, mono unsaturated fats. I think it's 60, 65 percent a mono fat, which is a very healthy fat, uh, in. I like to get my Omega Nines in me. Plus they are my favorite because antioxidants and anti inflammatory, if you read the studies on them, um, plenty of antioxidants in Pecans and play for anti-inflammation. Um, I know I've seen some studies even with arthritis, which I obviously do have severe arthritis in my knees, but it's also big anti-inflammatory. And so that made basic all the way around, really healthy. They got oleic acid in. Um, uh, and of course that's been that's healthy. Uh they have uh, there's just by a great things about them. Is there a good, not good tasting, they've got some good mineral copper and some other things in there that work really well with your, your energy as far as in your electric transport chain for ATP production. So overall a good nut. Good nut.

Chad: 02:44 Do they, would you say that they are, they're more, they have more beneficial vitamins and minerals and fat content than other nuts?

Eric: 02:52 Some of them, yeah, I, I'd say pecans rank really high when you break all the minerals down in the vitamins. I like the, how they're diversified and pecans. Uh, but all nuts, you know, if you overdo it, you're, you know, you can also become an anti nutrients. So you had, you don't want to overdo your nuts at all. Um, so you want to, you know, I do an ounce maybe maybe two ounces a day, uh, but I, I do have pecans everyday. Everyday. I have a handful of Pecans. So, but, you know, I, I, you know, and some have more fat Macadamia are higher, a little bit and fat and some people like to get their fat from Macadamia nuts. Some have a little more carbs than the others, but I, you know, I made sure my cheesecakes and I just grind up Pecans to use as a crust and I liked the taste of that. My wife likes almonds better. That's her choice and I like pecans better. So most people just eat their favorite nut, but I try to mix them up and that's why I have a variety. So I'm getting, you know, mix of different minerals and vitamins with pretty much they're pretty close to the same, but healthy and give it a try, you know. Great. What do you favor? You're almonds aren't you?

Chad: 04:10 I love almonds. Almonds, how brittle they are.

Eric: 04:17 But now do you have yours a salted roasted or just plain straight?

Chad: 04:24 Either way. Raw. I mean they're obviously a little more soft raw. That's what I do have. raw ones. Yeah. So I like them raw. I also love them roasted and. Well that's a question we have a minute here. Well wait, yeah, maybe. Does is roasting our roasted nuts? Do they have less benefits to them?

Eric: 04:44 You know, there's, there's a couple science it, some say yes and others say no news, very minimal of, of the difference on it, but a lot of times people won't eat them unless they enjoy the taste of them. My wife, she will not eat raw almonds. Nope. Nope. She wants roasted and salted. So we liked the salt. We like, this is great. You know, and I, I, I, I, I, my pecans are just raw. They're plain and I, if I'd eat a raw almonds or raw pecan, I would say the raw pecan taste way better than the raw almond. But I'd like to taste roasted almonds. I do like that, but now there's not much big difference. I mean, just the people that eat something healthy, you know, it's not so bad.
