Chad: 00:05 So we're getting a lot of questions regarding the proper way to live life in ketosis. We have you covered in our midweek miniseries called Sunday supps. Every Sunday we have a quick supplemental episode where we answer your questions on all things Keto. So our question today comes from William and William asks, I've heard of Keto acidosis, but I'm not sure what it is. Should, what is it and should I be concerned about it?

Eric: 00:29 Yeah, that's a good question. And to a fair question, and it's one that's out there that I, yeah, I have to say sometimes it's, it's been used, you know, people that are anti, you know, keto, they, they, they'll throw that Keto acidosis. It's in there to try to put a little fear in paypal. But as, as more is coming out in keto, that train is really going and so much involved and everybody knows about him. The keto acidosis is finally leaving basically because they're basically, that should be called diabetic Keto acidosis. And really what, who it affects is the type one diabetics. Okay. And remember they're not producing insulin. All right? So they can go into that high Keto acidosis and it takes a lot. I mean Beta, I mean you've got to be into, you know, 1520 higher a millimole okay. To, to really, you know, to suffer because remember that's very acidic to your blood. All right? And so you know that don't mess up your liver, your kidneys and you know, they eventually go into a coma. And so type one diabetics, yes, you have to be careful about Keto acidosis. We on the other hand, we can't, I mean you, you fast for seven days, you the biggest like the highest I've ever got was above eight millimole in my seven day fast and that's not even close to ketoacidosis.

Eric: 02:03 Okay. When people say, Oh, I them all your Keto, no, no, no. It's virtually impossible. If you produce insulin on your own, um, it's pretty much impossible to go into ketoacidosis. Um, but those that are type one diabetic that I have a couple of clients that is a concern cause member there, they're producing ketones all right? As an energy source. They're purposely, so they really have to make, you know, motion that my clients are on insulin pump. All right. So they can really monitor it. And then they have the, a continuous glucose monitor monitoring going on. And so they know where, where their blood glucose is at all times. So that, that makes that, that that adds, you know, security and protection to people. Um, so they, they're, they're the ones to be concerned with it is type one diabetics, so got ya.

Chad: 02:57 And so to be clear, ketoacidosis is an, is an n, uh, an unnatural increase, I guess. I don't know how to say it, but an increase of ketones to a date. There's level that's basically going to [inaudible]

Eric: 03:13 It's so acidic it will shut your organs down. Okay. All right. And I'll shut you off. But it, so far I know, I, I haven't seen anybody hire all the clients I've coached everybody. Um, I was above eight and that's the highest, uh, the monitor goes. Um, so I don't know if I was nine, I don't know how high it was, but I was working out, felt great and it came right back down. Usually when if you spike that high because you're in a big fast, like seven day fast it, it'll spike right back down and my blood sugars were fine. They were like fifties I think there's 56 when I was up. So that's one thing you look at to show that it's barely type one it's a type one ketoacidosis. So I'm not going to say it can't happen, so don't quote me there. I'm just saying I it's no, no. Unless you're a type, you become your Beta cells just shut down and then you would know by testing your, your millimole all you'd know. Oh Wow. Why am I so high? I'll send your pancreas. You shut down and no Beta and you weren't producing insulin then yes, you'd have a concern. But I know of nobody that you know personally. I don't know of anybody that all of a sudden their Beta cells, she's quit producing insulin now become insulin resistant. They're going to slow down, but they're still going to create insulin.
