Chad: 00:06 So we're getting a lot of questions regarding the proper way to live life in ketosis. We have you covered in our midweek mini series called Sunday supps. Every Sunday we have a quick supplemental episode where we answer your questions on all things Keto. And our question today comes from Kelly and Kelly asks, I've been on Keto for a while now and the weight loss in the beginning was great, but now I've stalled out. Are there any quick tips you could give me on continuing to to achieve the weight goals that I have set? That's not a, that's not an uncommon question, right?
Eric: 00:36 No, it's a very common question. Actually. I get one from my wife all the time, the same one. So if we can trick your hypothalamus somehow that gives the signals to the pituitary glands and your metabolism, then I would have mastered this question, right? It's, you know, we all have our set point and in our, in our brain basically of of our metabolism and our weight. What's in the protective, what's not, what's necessary, what is not. Um, we all, we all hit a stall, um, women hit more stalls, the ones I coach, obviously than men, and so I'm always dealing with, with this stall issue and I don't know where you're stalled out at, I don't know if you've lost a lot of weight already and now you're down to the, just the subcutaneous fat that's left and you want to keep getting leaner or you have more to go. Okay. So a lot of the stalls happened after your first 10, 20 pounds, then you'll stall for a little while and sometimes the stall will, will, will, will break loose and then, you know, I tried different things and tweaking your macros. So, um, and I'm assuming you're a female. It's Kelly, so I don't know. I'm not sure because I could go either way, but women do stall more than men and I hate to say that I didn't and I'll obviously we're stalling with hormone issues. Okay. Uh, without really getting into your hormone panel and seen in a way your thyroid is where your estrogen and progesterone and other hormones are a, I would recommend what I recommend and what I coach is you start tweaking your macros because that's all I have to go on. And first of all, I'd probably cut down your dairy and a lot of people have talked about that. I don't know if you're dairy sensitive. I am not looking at your genes. Uh, there's a good chance you may be, you know, dairy sensitive, but first they start there, uh, just eat avocados and other fats to make up for that.
Eric: 02:46 So bring, bring down the dairy and you know, you have to do it for three weeks or more just to see if it breaks the stall. Another is what I do with men especially, and women, I bring their protein up, bring their fat grams down. Okay? So it, you know, we're always fear the gluconeogenesis of protein and knock you out of Ketosis. Well, we can go higher than most people think. Okay. Especially if you're working out, you're going to utilize those amino acids. So I like to bring, you know, I like to get you up to your threshold a little bit on your protein to see where you're at without taking you out of keto and bring your fat down and we can break the stall that way. So adjust your protein and your fat. That's another way. Also, I've had people just cut their nuts out completely and you know, we know there can be anti nutrients with nuts, but it's amazing now with cutting out the nuts are really reducing maybe just to even less than an ounce because most people shouldn't have, you know, one to two ounces. And that's it. So I Apologize Kelly, it's, it's a matter of tweaking your, your, your macros. I and, and obviously get your hormones checked. Um, I don't know your age if you're close enough. My wife is 50 years old so we have some menopause issues and some hormone imbalances going on and she keeps coming to me, demanding me to figure out why she stalled and trust me. She's been my Guinea pig and I've done a lot of experiments with her and she's been great. Even like I mentioned before in Calorie reduction all the way down to 600 calories to break the stall, guess what? It broke it and then it stalled again. So anyway, there's lots of different methods, but that's basically what I come up with for you right now. That's great.
Chad: 04:31 From my perspective, I don't wrap all your benefits of keto up into weight loss. Yeah, I was going to go that way, but can just leave it there. Yeah, we can just leave it there. Just just remember. I mean obviously weight loss is a big deal for people in your. That's a. that's a big element to being healthy and and living the life you want to live and I and we're not discounting that, but don't. Don't discount all the other benefits you're getting through keto just because you're stalling and. And this too shall pass. That's my favorite. That's my favorite saying when we talk about anything. This phase will pass. I'm sorry, go ahead. You'll figure out different. You'll figure out other things and and you'll tweak things and you'll start the weight loss again. I'm just don't, don't get discouraged and jumped ship altogether.
Eric: 05:27 You know, and we're back to that word. I tell my wife homeostasis and she hates that word because I'm saying your brain is just probably bringing you back to normal homeostasis. It's protecting you. This is where it wants you to be. She's like, do not tell me that I did not want to be here. I want to drop 10 more and I keep coming back. You're fighting your brain, your body. It's the signaling coming from that. You can. Everybody can starve themselves and force themselves in. You know, all diets can work, but your brain's going to bring you back to that level. So it's a, it's a fine line and I have a hard time when I'm coaching to give what people want and desire to what they really need. That's a balance for sure.
